Thumbs up re 2 second engine knock!!!!

Greeting all! well just to confirm that NO lemons were picked when i took a chance on buying my boxster with a water leak issue. Bought a new lefthand radiator (about £114, $230), fitted it myself which took around 3 hours total. A great site to visit if anyone is having trouble with their car running a little hot is www.bombaydigital.com, he shows you a step by step account of how to fit a CENTER radiator to the standard cooling system (if you don't already have one) he can also be found on FLICKR the photo sharing website(just type in boxster in the search and you will soon find it) so thanks to all those that took time to help me with my problem ps for anyone who has trouble in reading my post i do apologise as it has been pointed out to me that i dont use PROPER english so being born 20 miles from where sheakspeare was born counts for nothin'in i guess ok many many thanks jon....umm bye yawl!...is that right!?!

well a couple of the members told me that it,s quite normal, it was like a dry cam type clatter, the car had been in a heated garage for the best part of 2 years so i guess it was all pretty dry at the top end, after the knock dissapeared (approx 2 seconds) there appreared to be a ticking noise which lasted for around 3-4 minutes, this finally stopped and she now seems to run fine. still have to do a road test of some distance but generally happy with my findings so far.

Definitely sounds like something could have been kinda dry after sitting for a couple years! Also Porsche engines do tick a little at idle. Sometimes I'm amused at the timebomb-like sound behind me when I am stopped at a light.

The ticking noise sounds like a lifter or a valve tapping at startup, For the first 2-3 seconds during startup, usually 4-5 rapid ticking/tapping noise.

ex: Ignition turned, Starter Cranks, Engine fires up then TAP TAP TAP TAP then quiet normal idle.

oo ok, ill listen for it.

btw, my car sometimes makes this loud whining noise at startup, i was at the autoX and heard it from another members car as well, asked him if he knoew what that was and he said no, anyone have any idea.
i cant figure out exactly when it makes the noise, as in sometimes it will and sometimes it wont, cant figure out if its when its warm cold, after a day, jsut randomly does it.
and its loud too...

it could be the starter motor not realising itself quick enough? that could account for the "only does it somtimes" and it would sound quite loud too, check it out if you can find it, it's in there somewhere...lol
