Side Grills and New Head Units

Hi All - Been lurking for about a month, but this is my first post.

I bought an Arctic Silver 2003 Boxster S about a month ago now - its my daily driver, replacing a 2001 Mercedes CLK55 (which is for sale on Cars.com if anyone is interested!)

Need input on a couple of issues:

New head units with iPod integration - my car came with the CDR-23 with HiFi speakers (not Bose, though) - it seems like the only iPod integration solutions are a $600+ Dension Icelink, or a $600 spec.dock - can someone recommend third party head units that have iPod integration? Some of the Alpine and Pioneer head units look nice, and are no more than $500 with iPod integration and sometimes Bluetooth, but I have no idea if they will easily integrate with the Boxster's fiber optic system... any recommendations?

#2 side vents - I have seen a couple of Boxsters around town that have side vents without any visible grill inside - does anyone know where I wouild find these grills? I looked briefly on PeilcanParts.com and did not have any luck finding side grills at all.

Look forward to any sugestions!

Welcome,

1, Not sure about that one...

2, I personally think your vent gills are alot nicer than our older vent gills.

I think you'll need a head unit AND new amplifier to get past the fiber optic setup.

Porsche started painting the grills in 2002. Earlier cars have black or dark grey vents. You'll notice that the cars you see with the dark side grills also have dark grills in the front bumper as well.

If you want true iPod integration, you're going to have to do a new head unit. Since your car is MOST bus equipped, that means you're also going to need new amplification as well.

As far as head units, the newer Eclipse and Alpine units have very well designed integration, especially the Eclipse nav units.

I use the Alpine 9857 head unit and Alpine PDX 4.150 amplifier.

I also upgraded to Focal V3Slim speakers.

Yep, anyway you look at it, it's going to be a $600+ adventure just to hook up your iPod.
