You forgot the 'I like pie' option in your poll!

Chills 04-16-2007 09:20 AM

I hate when people say "their" when they mean "they're," or "your" when they mean "you're" etc.... That just bugs the f*ck out of me.

unklekraker 04-16-2007 09:27 AM

so you mean to tell me that your upset? some people, their like that :D

j/k

what bothers me are the personal attacks or member snapping right away

ROFLMAO!!!!!

denverpete 04-16-2007 09:30 AM

My biggest peeves are reserved for the requests for help which go something along the lines of, "I just started up my car and now it's doing weird things. What's wrong with it. Thanks." No information about the car which might actually help in a diagnosis is given. Then, naturally, they are pissed because no one posts to help them out.

Oh, and "I like pie".

unklekraker 04-16-2007 09:46 AM

I agree with denverpete...a lil' bit more info would help a lot.

chills..I thought you're going to snap right away :D

kabel 04-16-2007 09:51 AM

Not on the survey but one of my forum (any forum) peeves are those who do not try using the search funtion first before posting a question... we really do not need any more posts about the smoke that comes out the tail pipe.

Perfectlap 04-16-2007 10:08 AM

^ that's true.
But some people take the "do a search" to any extreme. Not really on this forum but more so others I've seen.
The thing is how can new information be added to the databank if an old question doesn't come up?

You missed the second "they" in your sentence. It says, "when THE mean" instead of "they" mean. You got it the first time. Funny. LOL! :p

CRAP!!! I hate it when I don't proof read my own posts. Fixing it now... Good catch, spyder. ;)

UK, I would have snapped, but I've been on my meds today, so I'm all chilllllllllllll.....

The thing that bothers me the most is when people post using text messaging shorthand. It's not like you don't have a full keyboard sitting in front of you, unlike most phones.

R U getting it? ;)

racer_d 04-16-2007 12:05 PM

Poor grammar and street language, 'cuz ;)

humble_programmer 04-16-2007 12:10 PM

My biggest pet peeve is overuse of IM-style abbreviated text; the worst example I've ever seen--from elsewhere on the Web--went something like this:

m a total newbie n crazy abt makn a sudoko solver as my project. sooo can anyone plzz help me out wid dat??..i know basic java n c++.. can i plzz have an idea of how this project wud go..i mean the flow of da program..n how2start..i think its btr doin it in java.. it wud be ma first project n i really really need ur help..i'll prefer maknn a simple solver but of my own coz i really am dumb at understandin codes of others.. hopin 4 a reply dat wud solve ma matter....
thnx..

Every time I read this kind of crap, I just mentally cringe because it gives the impression that the writer has the IQ of a houseplant.

Rob-00BoxsterS 04-16-2007 12:44 PM

I had a hard time choosing out of the top 6.

I must say though, out of all the forums I visit, this one is at the very top as far as proper grammar and spelling, knowledge, and people respecting each other's opinions.

Sometimes drama is entertaining, but I would rather have a conversation with articulate, educated people any day.

edit: I think we over use this =====> . That really annoys me :)

thomschoon 04-16-2007 12:47 PM

Geee Whizz, I made it through Grad school without having to spell, you guys are tough, there/their/they're/whatever

porsche986spyder 04-16-2007 01:31 PM

Can we get some new or add on to our smilies and icon section? These guys are kind of old. :ah:

TriGem2k 04-16-2007 03:19 PM

I have to admit, I have been guilty of a few of those myself. 75% of the typing I do at work requires me to be in CAPS LOCK mode and I am too lazy to take it off when posting on the forum.

CJ_Boxster 04-16-2007 03:46 PM

I have 2 peeves: people taking pictures of themselves standing on top of there boxsters, lol jk.

Only 1 peeve really. Its the lack of a spellcheck, sometimes I type really fast and keys stick or i miss a key or hit the key beside the intended key and I come off as a baboso (spanish for gruleing idiot) on the forum.

SC986 04-16-2007 03:58 PM

It was not on the poll, but mine is everyone using the quote function replying to the original thread. I have never seen it over used like it is here!

If you are replying to the original post, no need for the next ten people to put the original post in quotes!!

unklekraker 04-16-2007 05:50 PM

okay! probably these are my 3rd pet peeves...so here it is!
When new members signed up and their very first post goes like this...

Hi, Im new here and just bought these amazing car, it's like a dream comes true but there's something wrong with it.... :troll:

just MHO...gotta go take a nap now, getting cranky

7th gear 04-16-2007 05:55 PM

not getting a response to a question i've asked

brp987 04-16-2007 07:35 PM

thread titles not indicating the subject of the thread. You're sitting there thinking, well this is probably crap, but it just might have some useful info, so you go ahead. Nope. Crap.

EPIQTodd 04-16-2007 07:48 PM

You forgot misuse of the possessive - that's my pet peeve

Usually Avatars and Signatures get to me. Not that big of a deal since they can be turned off. So other than that I would have to go with bad spelling and TXT/IM/MySpace talk.

On a side note, I did realize that the quoting can be a little confusing here and was wondering if when something is quoted it can be put in a box that has a slightly darker shade on the background to help the eyes separate the quote form the reply at a quick glance. Just a though.

986Roadster 04-17-2007 11:17 AM

wow...this is a very odd post....

that's one of my pet-peeves....if you don't like a post, why reply on it.

i don't think this should have anything to do with spelling and grammer.....

You have people on here from all over the world. So many language barriers. You have people on here, that probably can't even type. You have people on here who probably just learned how to use a computer. People at different levels, as far as education. making spelling mistakes is not a big deal, who cares, you know what they mean, so get over it. if i put my dad on this forum, you wouldn't understand a dam word that he types...i don't even think he know's how to type. but guess what, he's probably just as successful as anyone on this website. so what if he can't spell...............why not help him out, instead of pushing him out, because he can't spell.

i've seen post by our board police, and it was very disturbing to see him insult people on here, because they can't type. or can't explain by typing, and it come's out all messed up.

so you can't say that any of the listed is a pet-peeve........it's the internet...

Rob-00BoxsterS 04-17-2007 11:37 AM

Deep breathes, Danielsan........

I have read post by people whose primary language is not English and have rarely seen them reprimanded for poor grammar. I think what most people find irritating are the lazy yutes of America that, quite alarmingly, have not grasp proper language skills both verbal and written. Amazingly, they do have time to create new words like "Hella" though.

A poorly written post is usually very difficult to understand. Making it tough to put too much effort into responding to help them when they can't spend the extra few seconds to write a legible post.

But... you obviously didn't like this whole thread, yet you replied to it. Didn't you just commit one of your own pet peeves? :D

My new pet peeve is people telling me what can, and can't, be my pet peeve. ;)

Har!

I like your sig but i think it would be better if the image of your backside spanned across all 3 images.

Lets not forget that Eglish is a second language for some of our guest on this forum. So not everyone is from the U.S. and spelling can be a problem for them. Keep that in mind next time someone asks a question. They could be German or French or....

So let me tell you this, as I'm one of those "foreign guests" that you allude to -- I initially got bulged-eyed when I came to the US and discovered how badly you Americans handle your own language. Sure, back home we always heard about how crummy your educational system was, and were aware of Americans "lazy" mindset -- but had never expected it to be so prevalent. Come'on, how hard can it be to at least learn your own language?!
