Don't go see "Grindhouse"...

...it made me want to sell the Boxster for a 70's muscle car. Luckily, that feeling wore off when I got back home and saw the Boxster in the garage.

Great movie, though, with a kick-ass car chase. Not for the kiddies or weak-stomached.

In your opinion, what's the best car chase scene in a movie? I have to go with the French Connection or Blues Brothers (for very different reasons).

I think I shall rent "Vanishing Point" this weekend...

There is actually an old Thread about "great car chases" here somewhere! I liked the chase scene in one of the Boorne Identity movies...I don't remember which one...first or second movie.

How could anyone leave out "Bad Boys" (1995)
The original"gone in 60 seconds" the whole movie is a chase scene.
"Ronin" with the E34 M5.
"The Transporter" E38 7 series.
and of course my very favorite of all time , the super realistic "Driven" (2001)

This topic gets discussed many times on almost all automotive forums. In all fairness I usually see Bullitt with Steve McQueen as being rated as the best car chase scene. I must admit that I do agree with that statement. For its time and for what it produced it was a great chase scene.

I would then have to say Ronin. They even took the extra trouble of reverting cars back to the original EDM editions and placing microphones everywhere just to get the right sound. As if that is not thorough enough, then they hire professional race car drivers to do the chase scene.

The Bourne Identity is the one with the Awesome chase scene in the Mini. Then in the Bourne Supremacy they use the Russian cab to do the scene. Both were well executed.

No Mans Land was awesome. It is kind of cheesy and cliche of the 80's era movies but it was enjoyable to watch.

The original Gone in 60 Seconds was well done as well and very clever. These are definitely good movies to see if you are a car guy.

"Risky Business" is one of the greatest 80's movies (I once had to watch that for film class!) with a great Porsche scene to boot.

the best driving (the original reality TV clip)
watch for the garbage man...

Edit: that was filmed on the fly early one Sunday morning in Paris. It was not rehearsed or staged. No permits just the director/driver breaking every traffic law.

Hi,

Agree 100% with aren040. Steve McQueen double-clutching the up-shifts in that Mustang Fastback in Bullitt is some of the best sounds ever laid on a Soundtrack.

I also go with Ronin as #2 and The Italian Job (the original and the re-make) bringing up the rear.

These were choreographed by the famed Rémy Julienne who also did the chase scenes in 6 of the Bond movies (including with the Lotus Esprit!).

One of my favorites of his is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bxvGy1Uy70

If you like Muscle, see the old Vanishing Point with Barry Newman - that 440 six-pack Challenger is amazing - "Hey Kowalski, you out there?...?"...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Some of my old friends would argue that the greatest chase scene ever in a comedy production occurred the day before my wedding. We were chasing a car up Mass. Avenue in DC, when the '83 Chevy Impala I was driving skipped across a stretch of mottled pavement, got sideways and plowed into a 100 year old tree at some unknown, but ungodly, speed.

I had a terrible time reciting my vows with my rib cage so tightly wrapped and my head all swollen up.

I'm sure the photos of that mess will show up at my retirement roast.

Rail,

You know that female pilot you hooked up with in flight school is still flying around looking for you...
