de Cadenet was/is an expert on Euro sports cars. Once it became obvious that the B-J was turning into all-muscle-cars-all-the- time it became equally obvious that they needed commentators that were more knowledgable in that type of car.
Speed also dropped Keith Martin but apparently that was because he let it be known that he felt the prices being achieved by fake Hemi 'Cudas and the like were seriously inflated and bound to take a tumble eventually, so the B-J bunch told Speed to dump him.
I've long been a deCadenet detractor because of his snobbish attitude of superiority. Yes, he is an absolute wealth of information regarding European sports cars, but his utter distaste for everything other than European sports cars is unbearable.

I must say, though, personally answering Kabel's question for Rail about his watch was really decent of him. He has fractionally redeemed himself in my eyes (which I'm sure will help him sleep better ).

Awesome kabel...thanks! A couple more months of saving my hostile fire pay and that baby could be mine. Thanks for taking the time to find out that info! Grizz, he can't be too bad if he answered an email personally about something as trivial as a watch!

Bmus, you pose an interesting question. I too have wondered why they are called porcupines, but the universe is full of amazing and wonderous things. The name "porcupine" comes from Middle French porc d'épine "thorny pork", hence the nickname "quill pig" for the animal. I studied the mating habits of porcupines at West Point and consider myself a expert at Porcupinicus, or in layman terms, porcupine humping. How do porcupines have sex would be the next question. After years of careful study and grants from the Army...the answer is...very carefully.

Now Bmus, I pose a few questions to you:

1. Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
2. How does a thermos know to keep hot thing hot and cold things cold?
3. Why are old people called old people and young people are not called "new people"?
4. Why are red buttons always the most important?

I thought you were talking about the "what's the difference between a Porsche owner vs. Porcupine?" question.

AD is just being European. They all think European stuff is better and for the most part when it comes to cars I think they are right. They just haven't figured out indoor sewage plumbing, dentistry and deodarants. You know the non-essential stuff in life.

Difference in perception, I guess. I have never felt deCadenet to be particularly snobbish about Euro cars, and in fact his comments at the B-J were typically very complimentary to the level of workmanship shown on the hot rods and customs he reviewed. If he was a little more fulsome in his praise of, say, an XK120 Jag than perhaps might be warranted, they are after all "his" cars.
In any event, he authoritatively answered the question about the watch, so full marks to him for that.
