Look on the option code sticker on the front luggage compartment lid. There may be some numbers scribbled on the sticker, one of which could be the radio code, the other the security system code.

I always wondered what the writing on the sticker was
So how do I know if it is the radio code or the security system code ?
 http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9136
( post with my sticker )

Thanks !

Nick

Since there was only one code on the sticker, my guess is that it's the radio code.
When I had to re-enter mine after the battery went dead, I think it was 4 digits.
When you hook up the batt again, the radio display shows a code entry screen.

Hi guys, I cant find the number anywhere. The dealership wants to charge me to take the unit out and then call in the number. There has got to be a different way or a generic code. =(

Either way, you have to pay...you can go to Becker's website and they can email it to you if you provide the serial no. but it will still cost you.

You should be able to retrieve the serial number by just turning on the unit and holding down the tp button for 5 sec's then you should see BECKER if you turn the knob you will see the serial number (8 digits) take this number and go online to: http://www.radio-code.co.uk/instant_online_becker_radio_code_check.php
Payment is around 15.00 US last time I used it, you will get the number online and emailed to you.

Hope this helps.

That's BS. With the VIN# of your car, the dealer can make one phone call to get your radio code. Dealer did this for free for me once, when my battery died. I had my code with me already, but the dealer said they just called when I was in the waiting room to save time.

			Late to the discussion but:

I was shown by the guy that did my PPI the handwritten radio code on the options sticker - he had looked it up already then remembered that a lot of people write it on the options sticker.

He did the look up for free - pulled the radio to get some info and set the code for me. This was on a return visit to the shop but I had just paid for the PPI so maybe that's why it was free.

No, not having a bad day..just mad that dealers make up stuff like that to charge folks for stuff that doesn't cost them anything. The dealer does not need to pull the radio to get the code. All they need is the VIN.

Also, there is a guy on Renntech that can get you the radio code for free if you give him your VIN. Don't ask me how he does it.

I agree with you -that the practice is unfair..but then so is $175.00/hr for labor...

Definitely go to Renntech.org and ask in the Boxster forum. One of the guys was kind enough to send me my correct code from the S/N I pulled.

Besides, it doesn't take more than 2 minutes to remove the radio even if you can't access the code through the TP menu.
