Maybe if yer gonna get forced induction or something later on for the engine. But a car with the stock tranny might be easier to sell...

HI,

There is a Big difference in the ratios between the 5-spd. for the 2.5L and the 3.2L 6 spd. -
  • 5-speed (G86.00)
    2.5L
    1st gear - 3.50
    2nd gear - 2.12
    3rd gear - 1.43
    4th gear - 1.03
    5th gear - 0.79
    Final Drive - 3.89

    5-speed (G86.01)
    2.7L
    1st gear - 3.50
    2nd gear - 2.12
    3rd gear - 1.43
    4th gear - 1.09
    5th gear - 0.84
    Final Drive - 3.56

    6-speed (G86.20)
    3.2L
    1st gear - 3.82
    2nd gear - 2.20
    3rd gear - 1.52
    4th gear - 1.22
    5th gear - 1.02
    6th gear - 0.89
    Final Drive - 3.44

I am planning in the future.. Later this year, to put either a 3.4 in it or the IA charger on it. I am not planning on selling my box anytime soon.
Thanks for the replies

I know this is not the question you asked, but I've heard a lot of people say that the 6-speed in the Boxster, despite the cool-factor, is not a great transmission compared to the 5-speed, and that many "S" owners would actually prefer to have the option of taking the 5-speed. Just something to think about.

I did notice that too, that S owners were saying that also. Besides, S trans- 3500.00
2.5 trans - 1500.00 KISS keep it simple stupid. Thats what I go by.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

Don't know if it's a quality issue or not. IIRC, the 6-Spd. is from a Japanese Supplier while the 5-Spd. is a ZF Getrag.

Not banging the Japanese because they have come on strong in quality transmission in the past few years. JATCO (literally Japanese Automatic Transmission Co.) makes the Tranny in my wife's Jag and it's a great unit...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
