Does the VIN appear on the engine ? - 986 Forum - The Community for Porsche Boxster & Cayman Owners

I'm purchasing a Boxster whose engine and transmission are coming from another boxster.
The owner gave me the VIN number of the donor car, but I want to know if there is a way to verify whether the engine came from that car. If there is no way to verify it, for all I know the owner could be pulling the VIN out of his ass.
