I would take it to a Porsche garage, no where else to find out what's wrong. Once you know what it needs, then make the decision as to where to get it done.

I second Paul's sentiment. Take it to a p-car wrench, someone that knows boxsters and 996s. Don't write the car off yet. It might not be a bad fix.
