Dang it I need a few of these and forgot to include them on my last parts order. Luckily nothing really happens if they are missing |

Check local hardware stores! We have a great local store on the beach that has very organized Just a few weeks ago, I discovered they had well nuts! I was excited to find the source as the ones that held the stereo amplifier in place tore when I removed them. Well nuts were all under a $1 each IIRC.
In my case, I wasn't worried so much about getting an exact replacement as I could but a matching bolt and be good to go.

I'll take a look at the sizes on my next trip.

They are "only" $2.95 at Sunset. I needed one last year and I like to have a few spares of things like that, the inner fender plastic push rivet buttons, the little screw plugs for the front trunk latch area trim cover on the top of the front bumper, and the torx screws on the bottom of the bumper, etc. Sometimes these things go missing or break when I pull the front bumper to clean out the radiators periodically.

To stick with the original bolts, you are looking for m5 x 0.8 threading. These are commonly used to hold the plastic fairing on motorcycles, and are available cheap on ebay. Hand tightenable bolts that are easy to remove, have a wide or flange head, and still fit in the upper cowl's recesss - well not so easy to find. Whatever you get, grease the bolt shaft well b/c you will likely be putting a steel bolt into brass or aluminum threads.

You could drill the holes out to accept the 5/16 wellnuts.

Amazon sells metric wellnuts. So does Desmo
M5 Wellnuts | Specialty metric screws for your motorcycle as well as Fuel, Lube, and Air filters for your car or truck.
