Replace head?

I'm assuming when the engine overheated, then the head cracked, that you now have oil water intermix. Also, guessing that you caught the problem soon after it occurred and thus were able to shut the motor down before a complete meltdown. True? If so, would you then consider replacing the faulty head? Or do you think the there was collateral damage such as the crank bearings getting too hot too?

Are some of those re-builders you referred to buyers of engines in such a condition? If so, what could one expect to receive for such an engine?

Good luck in your search. Appreciate the dialog.
Thanks,
Joe

2001 Porsche Boxster S 3.2L engine 60k miles
I know this guy very well and have sold a lot of parts to him. He's selling the motor and installing a LS1 in his boxster. I've even seen the car in person and it seemed to sound/run good.
