FS: Factory style DIY Sport muffler kit
I got the first batch (3 sets) of sport muffler tubes finished and ready to ship. These pieces are mandrel bent and made from 0.060 wall one inch stainless tube. Due to lower than expected costs I have reduced the price to $100 (includes shipping CONUS). I have the first two sets sold, and strong interest in another two sets. This kit is designed for home conversion to the factory style Sport muffler. You will be required to do your own final fitting, cutting and welding. You will need at least two 1" bi-metal hole saws (Lenox are the best I found), a strong drill, a carbide die grinder, and a welder. I use a mig welder with standard .030 wire). Figure 3-5 hours labor. PM or call me if you are interested.
I can also convert your muffler for additional cost. These tubes only fit the Boxster S muffler to 2004. I can also make the tubes for a standard Boxster muffler (they are slightly different).http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1365264861.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1365264891.jpg |

After a few requests I have made a few more sets, ready to ship.

Bump again.

Could you tell me about the end result? How much louder, any drone, etc?
|
No drone, and the loud depends on how much throttle you are using. At idle its not much, if any louder than stock. Going down the street normally its not enough to gets a cops attention or wake the neighbors. But if you "get on it" you, and everybody else will know it. If you want I can do a phone call so you can hear it. This might give you an idea of the sound. PCA autocross Retama 19oct13run1 avi - YouTube

Sounds pretty good. Not obnoxiously loud at all.
Do you send drawings/photos/instructions/templates or anything like that? Is that price good for Canada too? |
Probably have to charge you a little more for shipping. The first car I did is now in Canada. Don't really have instructions, but I can provide some guidance. Since these are hand made every one is a tad different and each one has to be custom fit. The hard part is cutting the holes. Stainless steel is very hard to cut. You will probably need at least two hole saws and good cutting oil. Its about 3-5 hrs work total.

This really is the best solution IMO for great sound. Just more "attitude" when you open it up and not a hint of drone. Good job!

I think I'll do this, but I'll have to get back to you early in the new year. This would be for a '99 base, btw.

What mig wire are you using ? Does welding SS need special wire/gas ? I have a mig but never welded stainless.
