Would it be possible to remove the boxster cluster fascia and insert 996 gauges for oil pressure and temp and then install the 996 cluster facia? Perhaps it is plug and play as all the wiring is already there

This change has been written up by a few people over on Renn tech. I don't know if it has been written about it here. One person in particular I remember was "LowFlyR." He has a very nice looking yellow Boxster with many upgrades out of Vegas. i think he has a website or blog about all the mods.

JayKay,

I believe it is MY dependent. I purchased one from Todd and needed to purchase a new oil sensor/sender to make it work in my 2001 box. The extra info from the dot matrix display is worth it alone!

Free bump for a great guy!

??

I have a 2004 base Boxster, no computer. Would this cluster give me the computer plus the oil temp/pressure? How much labour and additional parts would be needed.....I am not overly mechanically inclined and as I live in a condo have no place to work on it. I am curious how it would look in the dash. Many thanks,
Dave

Alright, so I take it that one needs to install senders at the engine and alt which will connect to existing wiring harness connectors.

Then you would be able to plug in the 996 gauges in the boxster cluster to get oil t/p and alt yes? Then one would cover the cluster with the 996...

I have an 00 S with the OBC

...the boxster numbering is much nicer than the 996.

I suppose one could just change the whole thing

The cluster conversion has been described many times, look over on renntech as suggested above. It is very straight forward. No 996 cluster will give you oil temp. The extra gauges are oil pressure and voltmeter. As stated above the 996 cluster is a more sophisticated dot matrix display, with obc. The cluster is plug and play for a boxster as i sell it, you need to add a 996 oil pressure sender and run a wire to the cluster, you also need to install the OBC stalk. Anyone who can use a screwdriver can install it.

You can add the extra gauges to a boxster cluster if you so desire, but it is a little more involved.

Thanks I will check out the post at Renntech.

Would one be able to replace/substitute in the white boxster S dial facia on the 996 cluster (the three existing dials)? They look much better than the 996 characters.

Are you selling the 996 cluster cover as well? What colour are your dials? Kilometres or MPH?

How would you mileage match it? Can this be done by anyone other than a dealer? Everyone would be doing a roll back then...!
