An RMS leak is just a leak. It's mostly an annoyance.... however, the thing that can compound it is if the intermediate shaft bearing gets 'out of round'. That would be serious work, and usually warrants replacing the engine. At least, that's what Porsche will do. They don't seem to want to just rebuild or fix engines, they just replace them!

Anyway, if you only have the RMS seal leak, all that's done is the transmission is separated from the engine, the seal is replaced, and it's put back together. The job is about $1000 in labor and such. Lots of people opt to have the clutch replaced, since it's right there when the transmission is off, and the part is not really that expensive comparatively.
