Nope. Octane booster is generally worthless as far as boosting octane, and this happens inside the combustion chamber. The ticking is likely outside the combustion chamber in the valve train. Any repair work to the cylinder head is big $, and there is some risk that you may have a bent valve or something from over-revving. If the engine is gunked up enough to cause a sticking lifter from using cheap oil or not changing it frequently enough, that might indicate poor maintenance. I have zero ticking in my Boxster. Your friend might want to get a read-out of the over-revs as well. Could be a very expensive/risky Boxster. If you can't solve the ticking problem, I would pass. There are plenty of nice Boxsters out there.
