When I think of "undercoating" I think of the tar stuff they used to spray underneath, which weighed a ton, and hardened like cement. I suppose the WaxOyl-type coatings are less objectionable.

Agreed. Undercoating is the black permanent stuff and rust-proofing is the oil spray that needs to be done every two years.
