YES, THERE ARE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS.

The snorkel does a very good job of trapping out water from entering into your intake when driving in hard rain, getting water splashed into the intake or when you spray water in the intake when you're rinsing your car after it gets a bath once a week.

Because of this potential issue, and the really expensive repairs that could be incurred, I decided not to do it. Tool Pants suggested an article on renntech that he gave the page link to in another thread on this currently discussed topic.

I highly recommend you do a search on "desnorkel" and find that thread and read it completely, then make up your own mind.
