I jacked up the rear for comparison and playing "Wheel of fortune" I counted about 2.5 revolutions on the rear wheel compared to 1/2-3/4 revolution on the front wheel. Also, I was curious as to if the rear axle swap I recently did could have any effect on the abs system as there is supposedly a "gear" on one of the axles (or both) that the ABS system uses in measuring wheel speed I guess or something similar. My car has the PSM system too. I did have the check engine light for 0501 when this all began which I think was the driver side rear though it has never come on again since it was cleared.
I suspect the code will return as you do more driving. However, I believe you're onto something...

A check engine light for code P0501 means your car's computer (PCM/ECM) detects an issue with the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) “A” Range/Performance, signaling that the speed data it's receiving isn't within normal limits, often causing erratic speedometer, bad shifting, or ABS/Traction Control issues, typically due to a faulty sensor, wiring problems, or a damaged wheel speed sensor/reluctor ring.
