I think Porsche has tried many solutions to this problem. My 2004 is configured differently. The velcro strips have nothing to do with the tension of the top itself; rather, they fasten to the headliner and hold it in place. On my car the top beading is guided into its channel by another shorter bead that is secured to the top frame by its own channel. It is secured to this channel by a fixed bracket that apparently pinches this bead to hold it in place. There is a metal strap, secured by two screws, that appears to help hold this bead in place. Fortunately I caught mine early when the main bead came out of the channel. The top of the secondary bead had come out of its channel (for what ever reason the metal strap does not go all the way to the top of the bead) and the main bead was not held close enough to enter its channel when the top was closed.
