I have had 2 CPSs die on me. The first was on a replacement engine and the car would not start without starter fluid, with which it would run briefly. A different CPS solved the problem. The second time the car would start when cold and run fine till it was turned off, it would then refuse to start till it had cooled down for an hour or two. Again a different CPS fixed it. I say "different" because both times I had a spare CPS that I could borrow from another engine. Buying a new CPS would be a good idea, if it doesn't solve the problem at least you would have a spare.
Good luck.
