If anyone is chasing this, it was a bad wheel bearing. Every article said the bearings howl, but mine squeaked. It was a bear to replace, but it did it all with AutoZone loaner tools. The YouTube tutorials that show how to do it without removing the wheel carrier help a lot. But, you almost definitely need to use a slide hammer to get the front hub off.
