What do you mean, "apparently not in gear"?

Do you mean that after pressing the clutch, putting it in 1st, and releasing the clutch the car goes nowhere? In any gear? Like it's in neutral? If so, you're probably barking up the wrong tree. I'd first check your 1/2 axles, make sure neither of them came loose. If one comes loose (there have been stories of the bolts coming off) the car would act like it's not in gear.

If you're pressing the clutch but you can't push the stick into gear, (while the engine is running) then there's an issue with the clutch. Maybe something with the hydraulics.
