I discussed this with my indy when I first took it to him for service after I purchased. He's worked on Porsches for decades, first in a dealership and then on his own, and strongly recommended against, even at a clutch change. Basic feeling was, those that would fail have failed already, based on all his observations of the many that have come under his wrenches since the introduction of the Boxster.

One hears a lot about how essential it is to replace the bearing but not about real world, current, failures. I'm of a mind to chalk this up to a great marketing job by the manufacturer rather than a real need at this point.
