I generally use a pair of end cutters to tighten the oem (oeteker) style clamps. Buy a few clamps in case you muff one. If your only problem is a leaking boot, I don't see why you would go to all the trouble of removing the axle. Just clean it up and replace the clamp. Keep an eye on it afterwards.
