Question Need help with DRL wiring

OK, I'm feeling dumb here this should be simple, but...

I got some cheap Chinese LED DRL's with the white and orange LED's in them. They have 3 wires, black, red and white.

I'm used to these working with black to GND, red to constant (white lights) and when the white/yellow is attached to a side indicator and gets + signal it turns on the orange led's and off the white ones, so it flashes orange in time with the indicators.

However these seem to work differently...

* with just red attached I get orange light
* with red & white attached I get white light
* with just white attached I get white light

...so they seem to be backwards to what I'd expect, the white needs to be turned off to show orange, and on to show white.

Can anyone suggest how I can wire these up, I think I need either...

* some kind of feed that's off when the indicators are on, and on when they are off?
* or to just cut the wires after the little inline switchback controllers and reverse the red & white wires?

...or am I just missing something else really obvious?

Cheers!
