You are 100% correct and I have zero arguments to put up here. In fact laws are specifically designed to prevent this from happening - under NO circumstance you and I both are allowed (legally) to modify a vehicle which is dept of transport approved to use on public roads. Some countries enforce this policy more than others (e.g. I have to swap my aftermarket wheels before doing my car inspection every years here, those are no go. They do actually like my aftermarket headlights a lot however).
I think we are all adults here and understand the consequences of modifying our cars wisely (well, I hope). If you have concerns or not 100% sure with parts/mods you buy from various suppliers then, best advised stick to DOT "policy regulations". No point scrubbing these details on this forum imo
