Right, pull the carpet and check. Be sure to pull up the particle board and stuff under the carpet too. If there is a puddle in the trunk then you are almost guaranteed a cracked tank.
buy yourself a spring clamp tool and follow the DIYs here. Take your time. I just did this a couple weeks ago, if I can do it then anyone can.
