Unlatch it and stick your finger in the hole where the hook goes and see if you can depress the microswitch and fool the car into thinking it's latched. If you can do this, then the switch needs to be fiddled with so it actuates lower (toward the hook-latch) or replaced.

There are three microswitches in the top mechanism, btw. The center one above the rear view mirror, one in the handbrake to tell the car the parking brake is on, and one at the back in the center, under the clamshell that tells the car the clamshell is completely closed.
