Retroman1969/Timco,
I do not abuse it (e.g. drive it like you stole it), but abusing it is sort of hard since mine is an automatic. I rarely rev it past 4500 rpm. I have never taken it on a track. To the best of my knowledge it has its original IMS.
I purchased it in 2009, for $8700 w/104,000 miles.
Here is what I can remember about maintenance and repairs:
a) Two water pumps w/belts & thermostats (dealer & indie mechanic)
b) Both chain actuators (dealer)
c) Two AOSs (indie mechanic)
d) More sparkplug and oil & filter changes than I can recall (done by me)
e) Oil sending unit & updated coolant cap (indie mechanic)
f) After-market muffler/$285 off Ebay (mom & pop muffler shop)
g) Four rotors, two sets of brake pads and one brake sensor (done by me)
h) Two brake fluid changes (Firestone)
i) Removed bumper cover & cleaned radiators (done by me)
j) Transmission service w/new filter (indie mechanic)
l) New front trunk latch (dealer)
m) Replaced rear underbody pan & squirrel catchers (done by me)
n) Replaced 1999 OEM 17inch wheels with 2001 OEM 17inch wheels
o) One ignition switch (done by dealer even though I told the dealer I was going to do it myself…I’ve never gone back to the dealer)
p) Replaced the CDR220 with a used CDR220 due to a broken cd player
q) Replaced the seats with sport seats courtesy of Woody in Bastrop
r) Two batteries
s) Crankshaft position sensor (indie mechanic)
t) fuel pump (indie mechanic)
u) Brake light switch (done by me)
v) headlight & tail light bulbs (done by me)
I have a CEL, my indie says it is for vapor leak from a bad evaporator canister and purge valve. He quoted my approximately $1600 to fix it. I live in a county that does not require a smog check, so I can live with the CEL (I'll just tape a small pine tree branch to my car for my carbon off-set)
