Perfectlap, have you considered trying a "repair"? I have done this on a few cars with great success. Your insurance company will usually pay 100% too. These repairs cost about $70. There are some limitations (line of vision, size and etc.). These types of repairs can greatly reduce the chance of the crack getting larger.
If you don't like the repair...a good facility will apply the amount spent towards the cost of a new windsheild.
