Just to clear things up...
It's an
LCD, not an LED. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. The "spots" are cavities in the layer of liquid crystal due to losses. In other words, some of the liquid crystal medium has leaked out or air has leaked in, creating little cavities in that layer.
