Their a bit of a pain to do with the engine in the car. If you are going to do it with the engine in the car, take the rear mounts out so you can tilt and move the engine a little to gain easier access to the covers. It's not really necessary during removal but once you have the sealant on the flanges it will make the assembly process a lot easier :-) Don't forget to lock the cams down before opening them up :-)
Oh and don't think extra sealant is better - make sure you make a solid very thin bead along all the necessary surfaces to avoid clogging the oil passages!!!
