The top "painted" part of the wing is secured on by the "solid" piece. If you remove the black solid piece, all you will have is just two bars and no wing

Removal is easy, just remove the three plastic rivots (by pushing them in) and the painted part can be pulled off.
Then if I can recall correctly, There is only two screws on top and you just slide the rest off.

The reverse to put it all back on.

edit: I've been told that it is the same process for both 986 and 987.
