Good point. Another way to look at it is that you are being complimented on your
choice of car, in which case a thank-you is certainly warranted. Actually, a thank-you is warranted anytime you are paid a compliment. It seems that manners are all too often going the way of the dodo bird these days.
And on that topic - the proper response to "thank-you" is "you're welcome" - not "uh-huh" or "no problem"(unless they say "gracias" in which case "de nada" is perfectly acceptable, although "mucho gusto" is certainly a more gracious answer.
