that makes no sense because its not even a 987 Boxster. A Cayman is just a variant of the 987 Boxster, it's not a totally different car. In fact Porsche doesn't even report their sales number separately they report them as one car.
But this is a 986... so my guess is that the badge was damaged. They took it to the a body shop to have it replaced and some guy ordered the wrong badge. It sounds funny but maybe even the owner didn't know what it meant. For instance you would be surprised how many people in the world don't know that a Boxster and a Carrera Cabriolet are two different cars. Which makes me think you should check to see if the rear end was repaired or repainted. Or maybe someone simply broke the old Boxster badge while drying the car after washing it.
