"2500-3000 is really too low unless you just started your car and temp is not over 180 yet.
When engine is fully warmed up, I always shift at 4000 rpm. The needle is right in the middle, so it's an easy benchmark. This is for "cruising" style shifting. For more spirited driving (my normal driving style), I shift at 4500 rpm to 5000 rpm. I shift above 5000 rpm when I need to merge into freeway and for really spirited driving."
Couldn't agree with you more Yellowbox. Surprisingly enough I've found shifting in the geriatric range (2000-3000) yields horrendous mileage as well.
