The upper shock mounts (mostly rubber) can also deteriorate but they have to be really gone to knock.

Once you get started, its easy to replace everything:

When I installed the new suspension, I used new upper shock mounts (front and rear), new sway bars/bushings (front and rear), new front lower control arms/bushings (adjustable), new rear toe arms/bushings (also adjustable), and new front and rear end links (adjustable tarrett).
