With reference to the car wash, I wonder how sensitive the air inlet is to getting water in the intake?
I was reading a Road & Track long-term test report on a Mini Cooper S. Seems they ran the car through a puddle and got water in the intake, resulting in a "hydrolocked" cylinder and a rod stuffed through the side of the block. One new engine and $9,000 later it ran like a watch again.
Ouch.
