The way that I see it, both party's drove the country into the ditch.

The Dem's forced Fanny/Freddie to ease home loan req's so less qualified people could jump onto the housing boom and the GOP was happy to go along since it would keep the housing bubble from bursting for two more years.

Then both Party's stood back and watched Wall Street make a mint selling crap home securities. Later, when it all blew up, the gov had no option but to bail out the banks because the gov knew what was going on all along and could hardly blame the banks for doing what they told them to do (same as now).

It didn't matter who became President in 2008 because there was no way to stop or alter the economic recession. We'd be in generally the same economic condition today if McCain had won (ok, maybe the debt would be less but unemployment would probably be higher - call it a wash).

Neither Obama nor Romney (or any of the other GOP candidates) is going to fix the economy going forward because they are all still part of the system that created the problem.
