It's normal in both of ours. If you have your hand on the shifter and you let off the accellerator you will feel the shifter push away from the gear it's in. (i.e. if it's in 1st, the shifter will push backward a little, if it's in 2nd, the shifter will push forward a little.)

The shifter itself is a very simple mechanism that is directly connected to the gears through rods/cables and that is why you can feel it.
