The wire look an awful lot like wire I use to rig some of my offshore fishing lures. I am considering crimping a extension to the existing wire, wrapping a loop around the post and doing another crimp. The wire is badly frayed and it's been my experience crimping wire that frayed doesn't work well. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow after I go to the boat and get my rigging box.
