removing heat shield

so last year on a drive back from dallas, my passenger-side rear cat heat shield started to rattle. from what i can tell (and anyone correct me if i'm wrong) there are three retaining "brackets" attached to the cat holding the shield down. has anyone removed the shield without adverse effects? i don't think it's completely necessary since there's the material covering under the trunk area and there's some clearance between the shield and cat.

took it to the porsche shop i use and they said they could remove it and it shouldn't pose a problem. checked all the connections and everything's tight. it just wiggles more than it should.

at some point i do plan on upgrading the exhaust so just looking for a temporary type of fix to stop the ANNOYING noise.

(only at low rpms. anything over 1500 or so and there's no noise, unless it's drowned out by the motor)
