Porsche warns not to use wheels over 17" on 1997 models due to increased cornering loads. 1998 & newer models have reinforced: Lower engine compartment bulkhead, rear wall crossmember, rear axle mount, coilspring mount & rear wheel well. This is 1 reason 97's are lighter especially the cars without side airbags.
