Much like many of the differences between the standard 987 and the 987S, the front scoop is purely decorative.
Rather annoying, really. Between that and the red calipers that are no different than the black calipers, I don't know what to think of Porsche.
I'm told that the 987S scoop houses a tranny cooler if you have the Tiptronic, but I haven't confirmed that one.
