Yes, OK, the 986 is definitely not a drag car or a burnout machine. However, there are certainly occasions when you need to get it going quick. Anyone autocrossing knows this- winning can often be measured in tenths or even hundredths.
Soooo- getting the engine 2500-300 then letting out the clutch seems to work for me. It takes some practice (I recommend AXing or AX "school" to learn the technique). Temperature, road surface, and tire pressures make a difference. To get the quickest time off the line, you want almost no spin and lots of hook, but you don't want the engine to bog down. It takes some real practice. Also, remember that the box doesn't have a limited slip, so when you're spinning, it's just one wheel.
