Light operation is normal. You may not have seen it before because the ignition switch was bad - that's the funny thing about making such fixes. It may not have seemed faulty before and now you're seeing new things.
I suspect the glass is the result of a prior windshield that broke, vandalism maybe, and some of the chards got into the ductwork through the defoster registers, that's my guess anyway.
