Don't think the original or test models had a spoiler. Story I heard was they discovered the rear produced too much lift on high speed runs on the autobahn. The rear wheels were actually lifting off the road. So they added the spoiler at the last minute to combat that problem. No rear wheels at 100+mph could be scary.

look closer and you will also notice that this prototype also did not have a convertible top
I think they stayed as close to the original prototype as they could but had to make some compromises (like adding the soft top, move the intakes up so they would not suck every cigarette but into the engine etc)
