I would generally buy the "most" I can afford, meaning an early 987
You should also do some research on RMS and IMS issues which all Boxster models are notorious for (I had both on my 2002 986), the older models more than the newer, but it's hard to make a general rule here
Do your research, but be advised:
RMS: ~ $1k
IMS: ~ $15k (no typo)
