Use a very thin and flexible item like a plastic knife to very gently pry the piece away. There are removal tools available, but you do not need them. Do not attempt in cold weather or with a metal knife.

Work slowly until you get the horseshoe out enough to pry it with your fingers.

The switches press fit in from the backside of the panel.

It is easier than it sounds. Just go slowly and gently.
