I vote bad MAF.

I once (after numerous months) tracked some issues I had down to a bad MAF. On occasion it would cause my car to take fits like erratic power delivery and at times didn't even want to pull out from a stand-still without majorly riding the clutch, then it would pickup suddenly and just take off with accompanying popping like it was backfiring thru the intake, or pull strong up to 5k rpm then go flat in the powerband and not want to pull thru it.

Never got one CEL or code. Ended up changing it and everything was better (for awhile)...even if you have changed this recently don't rule it out, as later I found out that the "new" MAF I had in put several months before was causing my car to run extremely rich so I had to get yet another one which cleared up that problem.

Do a search on the forums for testing your MAF. I think you have to unplug it and drive the car around some but then my memory fails to recall what the rest of procedure is or the difference in having it unplugged tells you...maybe someone that knows will chime in.

Good Luck with it...having had an issue that I couldn't track down was quite disheartening so I can somewhat relate.
